Privacy policy

GKB Legal collects only the personal information needed to respond to an enquiry, provide a consultation, or carry out instructed work — typically a name, contact details, and whatever background you choose to share about your situation or instruction.

How information is used

  • To respond to enquiries and arrange consultations or calls
  • To carry out the specific work instructed, whether for an individual client or a firm
  • To meet any legal or regulatory obligations that apply

How information is stored

Information is stored securely, access is limited to what is needed to carry out the relevant instruction, and information is not sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes. Further detail on the technical and security measures in place — particularly relevant for firms sharing client data — is set out on the data protection & confidentiality page.

Your rights

You can ask what personal information is held about you, request corrections, or ask for it to be deleted, subject to any legal obligation to retain it. Requests can be made by email at gbhatia@gkblegal.com.

Complaints procedure

If something has not gone as expected, the first step is to raise it directly by email at gbhatia@gkblegal.com, setting out what happened and what outcome you are looking for.

  1. Acknowledgement. Complaints are acknowledged within two working days.
  2. Review. The matter is looked into properly, which may involve asking for further detail from you.
  3. Response. A substantive response is provided within fourteen days of the complaint being raised, setting out the outcome and, where appropriate, what will be done differently.

As GKB Legal is a consultancy rather than a firm of solicitors or barristers in independent practice, complaints are not handled through the Legal Ombudsman or the Bar Standards Board's complaints process. This procedure is the route for raising and resolving concerns directly.

Accessibility statement

This website is built with plain language, clear structure, and readable type sizes, and is intended to work well with keyboard navigation and screen readers. It uses semantic headings, descriptive link text, and sufficient colour contrast between text and background.

If any part of this site is difficult to use or access — whether because of a visual, hearing, motor, or cognitive difference, or simply a technical issue — please get in touch at gbhatia@gkblegal.com and the issue will be addressed, or the information provided in another format.

Terms of engagement

These terms describe the basis on which GKB Legal works with individuals and with law firms. They sit alongside, and do not replace, any specific written agreement put in place for a particular instruction.

Nature of the service

GKB Legal is a consultancy led by a non-practising barrister. It is not a firm of solicitors or barristers in independent practice, does not undertake reserved legal activities, and does not provide representation in court proceedings. Work for individuals is limited to advice, guidance, and drafting. Work for law firms is carried out under that firm's supervision and remains subject to the firm's own professional judgement and sign-off.

Fees and payment

Fees are agreed in writing before work begins, whether fixed-fee or hourly, as set out on the fees section of this site. Invoices are payable within the timeframe stated on the invoice, typically fourteen days.

Confidentiality

Information shared as part of an instruction is kept confidential and used only for the purpose of that instruction, as described in the privacy policy above and, for firms, the data protection & confidentiality page.

Ending an engagement

Either party may end an engagement at any time by written notice. Fees for work already carried out remain payable.

These policies describe GKB Legal's general working practices and do not constitute legal advice, and do not replace a signed engagement letter, data-processing agreement, or other written terms put in place for a specific instruction.
